Transfer dates have a habit of arriving faster than anyone expects. If your George property has a gas geyser, gas stove or gas hob, the conveyancer will ask for a gas Certificate of Compliance — and that request usually lands at the worst possible moment.
What is a gas CoC?
A gas Certificate of Compliance is a document issued by a registered LP gas installer confirming that the gas installation on the property is safe and correctly installed. GasCraft George's registered domestic LPG practitioners can inspect the installation and issue the CoC as part of the job.
It covers the installation, not the appliance brand. A CoC is not a service, and it is not a guarantee that a geyser will never break — it says the gas side of the system is compliant.
When do you need one?
- When a property with a gas installation changes hands.
- When new gas work has been done — a new geyser, stove or hob.
- When an insurer asks for proof of a compliant installation.
If you are in the middle of a sale, get it booked early rather than in transfer week. The certificate itself is quick; the repairs a failed inspection triggers are what cost time.
What gets inspected?
The inspection is a walk through the whole gas installation, not a glance at the geyser. It typically covers:
- Cylinder position, restraint and distance from doors, windows and drains.
- The regulator, hoses and fittings, and their condition.
- Leak testing on the line under pressure.
- Ventilation and clearances around the appliance.
- The appliance connection and mounting.
Coastal air in George and Pacaltsdorp is hard on fittings. Corroded hose ends and perished seals are among the most common reasons an older installation does not pass first time.
What happens if the installation fails?
Nothing dramatic — you get told exactly what needs correcting. Usually it is a hose, a regulator, a cylinder that has to be moved or restrained, or a clearance that was never right when the original work was done.
