Gas Safety Inspections in George — Preventive Checks by a Registered Installer

When last did somebody actually check your gas installation? An annual gas safety inspection picks up perished hose, tired regulators and blocked ventilation while they are still small jobs. we inspect gas installations across George and the Garden Route — call 071 551 2108 to book.

What Does a Gas Safety Inspection Cover?

The whole installation, from the cylinder outside to the burner inside. we check the parts that wear — hose, regulator, seals, batteries — and the parts people quietly change over the years, like a geyser that has been boxed in or a cylinder that was moved next to a window.

  • Gas lines and joints

Pipe condition, sizing for the load, supports and every joint pressure tested for leaks. Coastal air in Pacaltsdorp and Herolds Bay is hard on external pipework and fittings.

  • Connections, hose and regulator

Hose date and condition, regulator output and age, changeover operation, and isolation valves that actually close when you need them to.

  • Appliance function

Each geyser, stove or hob lit and observed: flame picture, ignition, flame-failure devices, and on battery units the state of the batteries and their housing.

  • Ventilation and clearances

Combustion air, flue routes on indoor units, and clearances from cylinders to windows, doors, drains and combustibles. Boxed-in geysers are a regular finding.

  • Leak testing

A full system pressure test rather than a sniff at the obvious joints, so a slow leak inside a cupboard shows up on the gauge.

How Often Should You Get a Gas Inspection?

Once a year for a normal household. More often if the installation is old, if the property is rented out, or if it is a holiday house that stands empty for months and then runs flat out over December.

Older installations

Anything past about ten years, or anything that has been added to piecemeal, is worth checking more often. Hose and regulators are the first things to go.

Rental properties

Tenants report a problem when there is no hot water, not when a flame looks wrong. A yearly visit keeps you in control of a property you are not living in.

Holiday homes

Standing unused invites spiders into burners and damp into battery housings. Book the check before the season rather than the week the family arrives.

Gas Safety Inspection vs Gas COC — What’s the Difference?

An inspection is preventive maintenance: we look, we test, we tell you what needs attention. A COC is a legal certificate that the installation complies, and it is what a property transfer, an insurer or a rental agent asks for. You may need one, the other, or both.

Safety inspection

For peace of mind and to catch wear early. No certificate is issued at the end unless you also ask for one and the installation passes. Best booked yearly, at a time that suits you.

Certificate of Compliance

For sales, new installations, rentals and insurance. It is a formal document with legal weight. Read the detail on the gas COC page, or see the compliance hub.

What Happens If We Find a Problem?

You get told what it is, what the risk actually is, and what it costs to fix. Then it is your call. Nothing gets replaced on the day without your say-so and there are no surprise charges added at the end.

  1. 1. We explain the finding

In plain language, standing at the unit, with the reason it matters. A hose two years past date is different from a leak, and we will not dress one up as the other.

  2. 2. You get a written quote

Itemised and split between what needs doing now and what can wait until next year. If parts have to be ordered, we say so upfront.

  3. 3. We fix it and re-test

Repairs are done by the same registered installer who found the fault, then the installation is pressure tested again. Appliance faults go through our normal repair process.

If the fault sits inside the geyser rather than the installation, it moves across to gas geyser repairs — fix first, replace only when it genuinely is not worth repairing.

Gas Safety Inspection Questions

It is priced on the size of the installation — how many appliances are connected, how long the pipe runs are, and how easy the system is to get at. A single gas geyser on one cylinder is the quickest and cheapest visit we do. Phone 071 551 2108 and describe what gas you have in the house and you will get a price before we book. Any repairs we recommend are quoted separately and only done with your approval.
